Typography is where logos either feel considered or feel like a font with a swash added. We draw the letterforms themselves: correct joins where strokes meet, consistent stroke weight through every curve, optical spacing rather than metric spacing, and terminals that were designed rather than inherited from a typeface.
What we draw
- Custom wordmarks and lettering for brand names
- Script and hand-lettered logos, redrawn into clean vector curves
- Monogram and lettermark design
- Numerals, and number lockup marks
- Logotype pairings where a mark and a wordmark need to interlock
Why lettering is redrawn rather than converted
Converting a script font to outlines is fast, and the result usually falls apart. The swashes collide, thin strokes drop below the minimum width for embroidery or vinyl cutting, and the counters fill in when the artwork is stitched or cut. Redrawing the letterforms fixes every one of those problems at once, and produces a logo that is genuinely yours rather than a font licence that expires.
Production specifications
We deliver outlines for all type, and can supply the live text as well. If a piece is destined for embroidery we set a minimum stroke width and add the necessary spacing between letters. If it is for laser cutting or vinyl we close all counters and verify the smallest internal gap.
Collaboration
Send us the name, the feel you are after and two or three references. We return two directions, then refine. Most typography logos are finished in ten to fifteen working days.
